Bakewell Parish Church

Bakewell Parish Church, dedicated to All Saints, is a warm and welcoming Church of England community at the heart of the beautiful Peak District market town of Bakewell, Derbyshire. Perched on a small hill overlooking the town, our historic church has been a place of worship, witness, and service for generations. We offer a wide variety of traditional and contemporary services, seeking to follow the way of Jesus Christ with the help of the Holy Spirit. Whether you are drawn by faith, history, music, or simply a quiet space for reflection, we look forward to greeting you.

Our church is part of the Diocese of Derby and serves a vibrant parish alongside our daughter church, St Anne’s in Over Haddon, and our fellow churches in the benefice at Rowsley and Ashford in the Water. We are committed to growing as God’s holy people, providing refreshment, teaching, and pastoral care to all. With a dedicated team of churchwardens, clergy, and volunteers, we support life events from baptisms and weddings to funerals, alongside regular worship, prayer groups, and community activities.

Services & Worship

Worship lies at the centre of our life together. Our main Sunday service is the Parish Eucharist at 10.30 am, held on the first, second, and third Sundays of the month. On the first Sunday we celebrate the Parish Eucharist at All Saints. The second Sunday is a joint Eucharist with St Katherine’s, Rowsley, while the third Sunday features Morning Praise. The fourth Sunday sees our congregation joining the joint Eucharist at St Anne’s, Over Haddon. Benefice Evensong takes place on the third Sunday at 6 pm. A small, informal prayer group meets every Friday from 9.00 to 9.30 am in the Chancel, and all are welcome.

Midweek and Seasonal Worship

We hold special services throughout the liturgical year, from Advent and Christmas to Lent, Holy Week, and Easter. The All Saints Wednesday Women’s Home Group provides a space for fellowship and study. Living in Love and Faith resources are used to encourage engagement across the church with Christian teaching on identity, sexuality, relationships, and marriage.

Life Events & Pastoral Care

We are here to support you through the most significant moments of life. Whether you wish to arrange a baptism (christening), prepare for marriage, or plan a funeral, our ministry team offers sensitive guidance and prayer. Our Administrator, Emma Raynes, handles enquiries for baptisms and marriages. For pastoral concerns, you can contact the Revd Brenda Jackson, our Associate Priest. The Parish Safeguarding Officer, Rosie Bartolome, ensures that our church is a safe environment for all.

Activities & Community Groups

Beyond worship, our church is a lively hub for community connection. The Art Club meets every Tuesday from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm in the Newark – all levels of talent are welcome, with assistance provided. Bring your own equipment and enjoy a sociable, creative morning for just £2.50 a session. Our Church walking group sets off on the first Thursday of each month, with new walkers warmly welcomed. Bell ringing and choir practice offer musical fellowship, while the annual Christmas Tree Festival draws visitors from across the region.

Visiting Us

All Saints Church sits on South Church Street in Bakewell, Derbyshire, postcode DE45 1FD. We are typically open Monday from 09:30 to 16:00 for visitors (please check opening times as these may vary seasonally). Our historic building contains many points of interest, including ancient stonework, stained glass, and a peaceful atmosphere for personal prayer. When you visit, you might consider leaving a donation, lighting a candle for a loved one, or simply enjoying the view across the rooftops of Bakewell. Donations and legacies are vital to our ministry; details for bank transfers and online giving can be found on our website.

Serving Bakewell & the Peak District

As the Church of England in the heart of the Peak District, we are deeply rooted in our local community. From supporting the Bakewell Monday market to collaborating with the banking hub at the Agricultural Centre, we seek to be a blessing to residents, businesses, and the many tourists who discover our town. Our church stands as a spiritual and architectural landmark, and we are actively planning a sensitive re-ordering of the interior to ensure All Saints continues to serve future generations effectively.
